Description

Pig Shots are a delicious appetizer featuring smoked sausage chunks wrapped in crispy bacon, topped with a creamy jalapeno cheddar cheese mixture and brushed with a sweet and tangy honey BBQ glaze. Baked to perfection, these bite-sized treats are perfect for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage and Bacon

  • 1 pound smoked sausage or kielbasa sausage, cut into ¾ inch chunks
  • 12 ounce thick cut bacon

Cheese Mixture

  • 4 ounce cream cheese, room temperature
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 jalapeno, stem and seeds removed, diced
  • ½ cup sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon Slap Ya Mama seasoning

BBQ Glaze

  • ¼ cup BBQ sauce (any brand)
  • â…› cup honey
  • 1 ½ teaspoon brown sugar

Garnish

  • Jalapeno slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the pig shots.
  2. Prepare the BBQ glaze: In a small bowl, combine BBQ sauce, honey, and brown sugar. Mix well and set aside for later use.
  3. Wrap the sausage: Cut the bacon strips in half. Wrap each sausage chunk with one strip of bacon, securing with a toothpick if needed.
  4. Arrange on baking tray: Place the bacon-wrapped sausages into a muffin pan or lay them out on a baking sheet if preferred.
  5. Mix cheese topping: In a medium bowl, blend together cream cheese, sour cream, diced jalapeno, sharp cheddar cheese, and Slap Ya Mama seasoning until well combined.
  6. Fill piping bag: Transfer the cheese mixture into a quart-sized plastic baggie and clip one corner to use as a piping bag.
  7. Top the sausages: Squeeze the cheese mixture evenly onto the top of each bacon-wrapped sausage chunk.
  8. Add jalapeno slices and glaze: Place a sliced jalapeno atop each cheese-covered pig shot, then brush the tops generously with the honey BBQ glaze.
  9. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the cheese topping is set.
  10. Serve: Carefully remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy these savory, sweet, and spicy pig shots as a perfect party appetizer.

Notes

  • Ensure cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easier mixing.
  • Adjust the amount of jalapeno or remove seeds for less heat based on your preference.
  • Using toothpicks is helpful to keep the bacon wrapped tightly around the sausage.
  • These pig shots can be made ahead and baked just before serving for convenience.
  • Serve with extra BBQ sauce for dipping if desired.
